SAGINAW, Mich. — Akil Thomas scored in regulation time and then again in the shootout as the Niagara IceDogs edged the Saginaw Spirit 3-2 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.
Jonah De Simone also scored for the IceDogs (8-4-2) in the first period and Bradey Johnson added a goal in the shootout.
Albert Michnac and Brady Gilmour had back-to-back goals in the second period for the Spirit (7-4-2).
Stephen Dhillon stopped 36 shots for the win. Cameron Lamour combined with Ivan Prosvetov for 29 saves for Saginaw.
Niagara went 0 for 4 on the power play and the Spirit were 1 for 3 with the man advantage.

FLINT, Mich. — Ryan McGregor scored in overtime as Sarnia kept the Firebirds winless to open the season.
Mitch Eliot struck twice for the Sting (6-6-1), while Sean Josling, Hugo Leufvenius and Jacob Perreault also scored.
Connor Roberts and Ethan Keppen had two goals apiece for Flint (0-12-1) and Jack Phibbs also found the back of the net.
