OHL Roundup: Tomasino scores winner as IceDogs edge Spitfires

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Philip Tomasino scored the go-ahead goal 18:24 into the third period to lift the Niagara IceDogs to a 4-3 victory over the Windsor Spitfires on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Akil Thomas struck twice for Niagara (6-4-2) and Billy Constantinou added the other goal.

Chris Playfair, Mathew MacDougall and Jordan Frasca scored for the Spitfires (5-6-0).

IceDogs goaltender Stephen Dhillon stopped 28 shots. Windsor’s Kari Piiroinen made 40 saves.

Niagara was 1 for 6 on the power play while the Spitfires went 1 for 2.

STEELHEADS 3 PETES 0

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Jacob Ingham stopped 33 shots as the Steelheads blanked Peterborough.

Owen Tippett, Cole Schwindt and Filip Reisnecker also scored for Mississauga (8-2-1).

Hunter Jones turned aside 27 shots for the Petes (8-4-0).

SARNIA, Ont. — Kevin Hancock and Nick Suzuki each scored twice as Owen Sound downed the Sting.

Brady Lyle and Aidan Dudas also scored for the Attack (5-5-1).

Sean Josling, Jacob Perreault and Ryan McGregor supplied the offence for Sarnia (4-5-1).

GREYHOUNDS 4 FRONTENACS 3 (OT)

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Morgan Frost scored his second of the game 32 seconds into overtime, lifting the Greyhounds over Kingston.

Joe Carroll and Barrett Hayton also scored for Sault Ste. Marie (7-3-2).

Jacob Murray, Brett Neumann and Matt Hotchkiss scored for the Frontenacs (3-7-1).

WOLVES 7 BULLDOGS 5

SUDBURY, Ont. — Macauley Carson and Quinton Byfield each scored twice as the Wolves downed Hamilton.

Owen Robinson, Blake Murray and Kirill Nizhnikov had the other goals for Sudbury (7-4-0).

The Bulldogs (7-4-1) had a balanced offence with Isaac Nurse, Brandon Saigeon, Arthur Kaliyev, Matthew Strome and MacKenzie Entwistle all chipping in with goals.

RANGERS 5 STORM 0

KITCHENER, Ont. — Luke Richardson turned aside all 31 shots he faced as the Rangers blanked Guelph.

Greg Meireles, Mike Petizian, Rickard Hugg, Eric Guest and Alexey Lipanov supplied the offence for Kitchener (6-2-2).

Anthony Popovich kicked out 22 shots for the Storm (6-3-1).

GENERALS 4 KNIGHTS 2

LONDON, Ont. — Jack Studnicka scored the eventual winner on a penalty shot at 8:57 of the second period and Oshawa went on to beat the Knights.

Dylan Robinson, Nando Eggenberger and Eric Henderson also scored for the Generals (5-4-1).

Matvey Guskov and Antonio Stranges replied for London (4-4-1).

COLTS 7 SPIRIT 3

SAGINAW, Mich. — Justin Murray scored twice as Barrie downed the Spirit.

Lucas Chiodo, Sam Rhodes, Ben Hawerchuk, Matej Pekar and Jason Willms also scored for the Colts (6-5-1).

Cole Coskey, DJ Busdeker and Brady Gilmour supplied the offence for Saginaw (6-4-1).
