OHL Roundup: Whittaker scores hat trick as Knights double up Otters

LONDON, Ont. – Richard Whittaker scored a hat trick and added an assist as the London Knights doubled up the Erie Otters 6-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Alex Formenton, Sergey Popov and Nathan Dunkley also scored for the Knights (37-23-4), who have won five straight and eight of their last 10.

Kyle Maksimovich, Troy Lajeunesse and Gera Poddubnyi supplied the offence for Erie (21-34-10). Kurtis Henry of the Otters was given a match penalty for fight-instigating at 14:34 of the second period.

London goaltender Joseph Raaymakers kicked out 26 shots. Anand Oberoi turned made 23 saves for the Otters.

The Knights went 0 for 4 on the power play while Erie was 1 for 7 with the man advantage.

GREYHOUNDS 4 RANGERS 3

KITCHENER, Ont. — Boris Katchouk scored twice as Sault Ste. Marie downed the Rangers.

Katchouk supplied the winner 11:25 into the third period and Keeghan Howdeshell and Hayden Verbeek also scored for the Greyhounds (53-7-4).

Adam Mascherin, Joseph Garreffa and Kole Sherwood had goals for Kitchener (42-20-2).

BATTALION 4 WOLVES 1

SUDBURY, Ont. — Justin Brazeau had a goal and a helper and Jesse Saban tacked on three assists as North Bay defeated the Wolves.

Luke Burghardt, Jake Henderson and Luke Moncada also scored for the Battalion (29-26-10).

Alexey Lipanov had the lone goal for Sudbury (16-39-9).

GENERALS 6 STEELHEADS 2

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Jack Studnicka scored three times to lead Oshawa over the Steelheads.

Domenico Commisso, Brendan Harrogate and Allan McShane also scored for the Generals (34-27-3).

Nicolas Hague and Michael Little replied for Mississauga (30-31-3).

FRONTENACS 7 67’S 2

KINGSTON, Ont. — Cliff Pu scored two goals and set up another as the Frontenacs pummelled Ottawa.

Linus Nyman had a goal and two assists and Jacob Paquette, Justin Pringle, Ryan Cranford and Matt Hotchkiss supplied the rest of the offence for Kingston (34-21-9).

Sasha Chmelevski and Graeme Clarke scored for the 67’s (28-27-8).

SPIRIT 3 STORM 0

GUELPH, Ont. — Evan Cormier stopped all 32 shots he faced as Saginaw blanked the Storm.

Marcus Crawford, Blade Jenkins and Mason Kohn provided goals for the Spirit (29-26-8).

Anthony Popovich turned away 25 shots for Guelph (28-27-9).
