OHL suspends 67’s centre Monahan 10 games

The Ottawa 67’s will have to make do with their best player for the next ten games.

The Ontario Hockey League announced Friday that it has suspended Ottawa centre Sean Monahan, effective immediately, for a checking to the head infraction on November 18 against the Plymouth Whalers.

Monahan hit Whalers’ captain Colin MacDonald with an elbow to the head in the dying minutes of a tough 3-2 home loss to Plymouth.

No penalty was called on the play, but MacDonald lay on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the bench.

The OHL released a video of the incident on its website detailing the reasons for the suspension.

Monahan is considered to be a top draft prospect for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. The 18-year-old Brampton native was ranked No. 1 among draft-eligible skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Service’s most recent preliminary rankings of North American skaters.
