MARYSVILLE, Mich. — Authorities say a junior hockey player accused of assaulting his girlfriend now faces additional charges for stabbing her 48-year-old father.

Twenty-year-old defenceman Dalton Young has played three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Saginaw Spirit. Young was arrested Thursday after his 20-year-old girlfriend was assaulted. He was arraigned in that case and released Saturday.

That night, police say Young stabbed the woman’s father in the back at the family’s home in Marysville, about 50 miles northeast of Detroit. The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

The Times Herald of Port Huron says Young faces charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and home invasion. He’s being held on a bond and doesn’t have an attorney.
