QMJHL: Chicoutimi back to winning ways

Solid goaltending and efficient special teams helped the Chicoutimi Sagueneens end their early-season funk Sunday afternoon.

Bobby Nadeau stopped 19 shots while the Sagueneens used a pair of power-play goals — and one while shorthanded — to earn a 4-1 victory over the Quebec Remparts in QMJHL action.

Francis Pare and Kirill Tulupov scored on the man advantage while Joel Champagne and Derek Fulmare added singles as the Sagueneens (2-5-0-0) ended a four-game losing streak. Fulmare added an assist in the victory.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL on Sunday, it was: Moncton 3, Acadie-Bathurst 2; Victoriaville 5, Gatineau 4 (SO); Baie-Comeau 3, Val-d’Or 2 (SO); and Shawinigan 7, Drummondville 2.

At Quebec, Mikhail Stefanovich provided the only offence of the day for the Remparts (3-3-0-1), scoring his third goal of the season to end Nadeau’s shutout bid at 5:54 of the third period.

Kevin Desfosses stopped 32 shots as Quebec saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.

Wildcats 3 Titan 2

At Bathurst, N.B., Adam Bezek’s power-play goal with 6:10 left in the third period stood as the game winner in Moncton’s victory over the Titan.

Murdock MacLellan and Matt Marquardt added singles for the Wildcats (5-1-1-1).
Dany Masse and Taylor Lambke countered for Acadie-Bathurst (4-1-1-0).

Tigres 5 Olympiques 4 (SO)

At Victoriaville, Que., Toby Lafrance had the only goal of the shootout as the Tigres beat Gatineau.

Lafrance, Keven Veilleux, Dave Nolin and Alexandre Monahan scored in regulation for Victoriaville (4-3-0-0).

Matthew Pistilli scored twice while Alexandre Touchette and Michael Stinziani had singles in a losing cause for the Olympiques (4-3-0-1).

Drakkar 3 Foreurs 2 (SO)

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Samuel Morneau’s goal in the fourth round of the shootout guided the Drakkar past Val-d’Or.

Francois Bouchard and Francois Lanctot-Marcotte had regulation goals for Baie-Comeau (4-2-0-1).

Marc-Andre Cote and Brad Marchand scored for the Foreurs (3-3-0-1).

Cataractes 7 Voltigeurs 2

At Drummondville, Que., Pierre-Alexandre Vandall and Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll each had a pair of goals as Shawinigan cruised past the Voltigeurs.

Francis Filion, Maxime Legault and Francis Piche also scored for the Cataractes (4-1-0-1).

Drew Paris and Benoit Levesque replied for Drummondville (2-4-0-1).
