QMJHL: Gawanke’s late third-period goal kills Huskies win streak at 10

SYDNEY, N.S. — Leon Gawanke’s goal at 13:09 of the third period lifted the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 3-2 upset of Rouyn-Noranda on Thursday, snapping the Huskies’ 10-game win streak.

Gabriel Proulx and Ian Smallwood also scored for the Screaming Eagles (15-11-2), while Kevin Mandolese made 35 saves for the win.

Peter Abbandonato and Tyler Hinam scored for Rouyn-Noranda (22-5-0). Samuel Harvey stopped 24 shots for the Huskies.

Cape Breton was 0 for 4 on the power play and Rouyn-Noranda was 1 for 4 with the man advantage.

WILDCATS 7 CATARACTES 1

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Alexander Khovanov had a hat trick as Moncton cruised past the Cataractes.

Adam Capannelli had a pair of goals for the Wildcats (20-6-2), while Jeremy McKenna and Mika Cyr also scored.

Leon Denny scored for Shawinigan (7-17-2). Cataractes right-winger Vincent Senez earned a five-minute major and a game misconduct for checking to the head at 15:57 of the first period.

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Alexander Katerinakis had back-to-back goals in the last five minutes of play to power the Armada past Halifax.

Simon Pinard opened scoring in the second period for Blainville-Boisbriand (13-12-1).
