QMJHL: Moncton takes Game 1 over Chicoutimi

MONCTON, N.B. — Ivan Barbashev had a goal and an assist to pace the Moncton Wildcats to a 4-2 victory over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in Game 1 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series on Thursday.

Garrett Johnston, Eric Leger and Taylor Burke also scored for Moncton. Conor Garland chipped in with two helpers.

Laurent Dauphin and Janne Puhakka replied for the Sagueneens.

Wildcats goaltender Alex Dubeau stopped 31 shots. Chicoutimi’s Julio Billia made 33 saves in the losing effort.

Moncton was 2 for 8 on the power play while the Sagueneens scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

Game 2 goes Sunday in Moncton.
