SHERBROOKE, Que. — Alexis Shank stopped 43-of-44 shots as the Chicoutimi Sagueneens toppled the host Sherbrooke Phoenix 3-1 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action, earning at least a point in their seventh straight outing.
The Sagueneens opened the season with back-to-back regulation-time losses, but have responded by going 5-0-2 since with Shank being a major contributor to the success.
Shank has allowed just three combined goals against on 86 shots in his past three starts and leads the QMJHL with a 1.39 goals-against average and .952 save percentage in five appearances.
Chicoutimi (5-2-2) used its power play to get the offence going, with Jesse Sutton scoring with the man advantage 3:22 into the game and Hendrix Lapierre adding another 5-on-4 goal early in the second for a 2-0 lead.
Bobby Dow cut the deficit in half at 13:52 of the second, but Sherbrooke couldn’t get another past Shank, who stopped 14 shots in the third.
Zachary Lavigne added an empty netter for the Sagueneens with 12 seconds to go in regulation.
Thomas Sigouin made 33 saves for the Phoenix. Sherbrooke defenceman Jacob Arsenault was ejected for removing a helmet during a fight midway through the second.
The Sagueneens went 2 for 4 on the power play while the Phoenix were 0 for 2.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Cole McLaren stopped all 28 shots his way as Halifax blanked the Sea Dogs.
Brock McLeod opened the scoring in the second for the Mooseheads (7-2-0) while Raphael Lavoie, Xavier Parent and Samuel Asselin all scored in the opening three minutes of the third.
Alex D’Orio kicked out 34-of-38 shots for Saint John (2-6-2), which has dropped seven of eight games.

BATHURST, N.B. — Mark Grametbauer stopped 45-of-48 shots, but it wasn’t enough as Charlottetown got by the Titan.
Liam Peyton, William Sirman and Hunter Drew beat Grametbauer before Daniel Hardie added a empty netter for the Islanders (4-5-1). Matthew Welsh made 22 saves for the win.
Evan MacKinnon was the lone Acadie-Bathurst (3-5-0) skater to get one past Welsh.
Charlotte centre Zachary Beauregard and Titan winger Logan Chisholm were ejected late in the second for a second-fight altercation on the same play.

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Simon Lafrance scored once in regulation, then added the shootout winner to lift the Tigres over Cape Breton
Enrico Di Cesare, Sean Larochelle and Marc-Antoine Brouillette also scored for Victoriaville (4-4-1). Tristan Cote-Cazenave made 32 saves for the win.
Egor Sokolov struck twice while Leon Gawanke and Mitchell Balmas had the others for the Screaming Eagles (3-6-1), who are on a five-game slide. Kevin Mandolese made 29 saves in defeat.

QUEBEC CITY — Tyler Hylland scored twice and Jordan Martel had a goal and two assists as Baie-Comeau downed the Remparts to stay atop the league standings.
D’Artagnan Joly, Shawn Element and Samuel L’Italien also scored for the Drakkar (8-1-1). Justin Blanchette made 25 saves for the victory.
Louis-Filip Cote and Christian Huntley replied for Quebec (5-4-1). Anthony Morrone turned away 23 shots in 41:30 to get pegged with the loss.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Felix Bibeau won it 27 seconds into overtime while Peter Abbandonato had a goal and four helpers as the Huskies edged Moncton for their seventh win in a row.
Jakub Lauko scored twice and Justin Bergeron and Patrik Hrehorcak added singles for Rouyn-Noranda (8-1-0). Zachary Emond made 30 saves for the win.
Simon Le Coultre had a pair of goals while Jeremy McKenna, Alexander Khovanov and Mika Cyr also scored for the Wildcats (5-3-1), who got 33 saves from Francis Leclerc
Moncton’s Sean Stewart and Huskies’ Samuel Naud were tossed for a staged fight at 8:45 of the opening period.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Gabriel Denis scored twice and Jan Drozg had a goal and two assists as the Cataractes beat Gatineau to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Vincent Senez and Anthony Imbeault rounded out the Shawinigan (2-7-0) offence. Lucas Fitzpatrick turned aside 42 shots for the victory.
Pier-Olivier Roy, Giordano Finoro and Jeffrey Durocher found the back of the net for the Olympiques (5-3-1). Creed Jones kicked out 20-of-24 shots in defeat.
