QMJHL Roundup: Aquin scores in overtime, Islanders beat Mooseheads


HALIFAX — Pascal Aquin scored at 8:58 of overtime as the Charlottetown Islanders edged the Halifax Mooseheads 4-3 on Friday in Game 1 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League second-round playoff series.

Keith Getson scored twice in regulation while Nikita Alexandrov had the other for the Islanders.

Connor Moynihan, Xavier Parent and Filip Zadina scored for the Mooseheads.

Matthew Welsh turned aside 41 shots for Charlottetown as Alexis Gravel made 38 saves for Halifax.

The Islanders went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Mooseheads scored on their only opportunity with the man advantage.

Game 2 goes Saturday in Halifax.


BATHURST, N.B. — Mitchell Balmas scored twice and Olivier Galipeau had a goal and two helpers as the Titan downed Sherbrooke to open their second-round matchup.

German Rubtsov also scored before taking a major and game misconduct for spearing at 4:52 of the third period, and Ethan Crossman had the other for Acadie-Bathurst. Evan Fitzpatrick made 22 saves for the victory.

Samuel Poulin found the back of the net for the Phoenix. Reilly Pickard stopped 23-of-28 shots in a losing cause.

The Titan host Game 2 on Saturday.


BOISBRIAND, Que. — Alex Barre-Boulet had a pair of goals and Emile Samson made 22 saves as the Armada sunk Moncton in Game 1 of their second-round series.

Alexander Katerinakis, Thomas Ethier, Luke Henman and Drake Batherson also scored for Blainville-Boisbriand.

Adam Capannelli kept the Wildcats from being blanked. Matthew Waite combined with Mark Grametbauer for 24 saves in defeat.

The Armada host Game 2 on Sunday.


DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Olivier Rodrigue turned aside 21 shots as the Voltigeurs doubled up Victoriaville for a 1-0 lead in their second-round set.

Xavier Bernard, Nicolas Beaudin, Pavel Koltygin and Connor Bramwell supplied the Drummondville offence.

Mathieu Sevigny and Chase Harwell scored for the Tigres. Etienne Montpetit kicked out 19-of-22 shots in defeat.

The Voltigeurs host Game 2 on Saturday.
