QMJHL Roundup: Askew lifts Islanders to OT win against Titan

CHARLOTTETOWN — Cameron Askew scored 1:54 into overtime to power the Charlottetown Islanders past the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-4 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Derek Gentile scored twice in regulation time for Charlottetown (36-24-7), while Sullivan Sparkes and Nikita Alexandrov also scored.

Samuel Asselin, Jeffrey Truchon-Viel, Ethan Crossman and Olivier Galipeau replied for the Titan (42-13-10).

Matthew Welsh kicked out 25 shots for Charlottetown. Evan Fitzpatrick turned away 34 shots for Acadie-Bathurst.

The Islanders went 0 for 3 on the power play and Acadie-Bathurst was 0 for 6 with the man advantage.

SCREAMING EAGLES 3 SEA DOGS 2

SYDNEY, N.S. — Isiah Campbell put away the eventual winner 5:37 into the third as Cape Breton slipped past Saint John.

Phelix Martineau and Brooklyn Kalmikov also scored for the Screaming Eagles (31-28-8).

Luke Wilson had both goals for the Sea Dogs (14-49-11).

MOOSEHEADS 7 WILDCATS 4

HALIFAX — Raphael Lavoie scored twice as the Mooseheads routed Moncton.

Connor Moynihan scored twice and Filip Zadina put away the eventual winner on the power play for Halifax (43-17-7) at 8:33 of the second period. Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Maxime Fortier added goals.

James Phelan had a pair of goals for the Wildcats (27-32-8), while Daniil Miromanov and Jakob Pelletier also scored.

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Marek Zachar had the eventual winner as the Phoenix downed Shawinigan.

Samuel Poulin, Nicolas Poulin and Bailey Peach also scored for Sherbrooke (33-23-11).

Alex Plamondon scored for the Cataractes (16-44-7).

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Joe Veleno had a hat trick, including the winner, as the Drummondville blasted Gatineau.

Metis Roelens scored for the Olympiques (32-26-9).

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Colten Ellis stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Oceanic blanked Quebec.

Mathieu Nadeau knocked in the game-winning goal for Rimouski (42-17-7) at 3:38 of the third period. Charle-Edouard D’Astous and Carson MacKinnon also scored.

Dereck Baribeau kicked out 27 shots for the Remparts (39-22-6).

The Oceanic’s Chase Stewart was given a game misconduct for checking to the head at 8:25 of the third period.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — William Cyr’s power-play goal near the midway point of the game was the eventual winner as Rouyn-Noranda held on to beat the Sagueneens.

Mathieu Boucher, Vincent Marleau, Peter Abbandonato and Tyler Hinam rounded out the attack for the Huskies (38-19-10).

Kelly Klima had a hat trick for Chicoutimi (28-34-5), while Vladislav Kotkov also found the back of the net.

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Maxime Comtois’s goal late in the second period stood as the winner as the Tigres sank the Drakkar.

Gabriel Fortier struck twice for Baie-Comeau (30-32-5).

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Emile Samson made 17 saves as the Armada shut out Val-d’Or.

Alex Barre-Boulet and Alexander Katerinakis had two goals apiece for Blainville-Boisbriand (48-11-7), while Remy Anglehart and Michael Kemp also scored.

Jonathan Lemieux stopped 45 shots in net for the Foreurs (19-41-7).
