QMJHL Roundup: A look at Saturday’s games

Frederick Roy must have taken some lessons from his coach on how to be more productive.

Roy scored both goals as his Quebec Remparts shutout the host Moncton Wildcats 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

As the son of Remparts coach, Patrick Roy, Frederick has spent the last three seasons under his father and is currently having the best season of his junior career.

In his last three games the 19-year-old has three goals and eight points and overall has 23 goals and 73 total points in 54 games.

Anthony Duclair picked up an assist on both of the Remparts’ (35-15-7) goals while Mikael Tam and Philippe Archambault had one apiece.

This was the third time this season that the Wildcats (27-25-5) have been shutout and the loss snapped their four-game winning streak.

Louis Domingue made 27 saves for the shutout, and the game’s first star, while Roman Will turned away 29 saves in defeat.

Quebec went 0 for 1 on the power play as Moncton failed to score on four opportunities with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Shawinigan 3, Chicoutimi 2; Cape Breton 2, Rimouski 1 (OT) and Victoriaville 3, P.E.I. 2.

At Moncton, N.B., the Remparts outshot the Wildcats 10-5 in the first period but both goalies stopped everything they faced.

It was Moncton’s turn to lead in the shots column for the second period, outshooting Quebec 14-9, however the game stayed scoreless after 40 minutes of play.

Roy finally opened the scoring with a goal at 6:49 of the third period.

The Wildcats pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but Roy solidfied a victory for the Remparts with an empty-net goal at 19:30.

At Saguenay, Que., Taylor Carnevale and Pierre-Olivier Morin had a goal and as assist each as Shawinigan (39-12-7) handed Chicoutimi (29-20-9) their fourth straight loss.

At Sydney, N.S., Jonathan Brunelle scored the winner in overtime and Philippe Trudeau made 26 saves as Cape Breton (21-32-3) snapped a six-game losing streak by defeating Rimouski (34-23-1).

At Charlottetown, David Honzik made 27 saves, earning the game’s first star, and Philippe Maillet set up two goals, including the game winner, as Victoriaville (37-17-4) edged P.E.I. (17-35-4).
