QMJHL Roundup: Foreurs win seventh in a row

The Val-d'Or Foreurs are a tough opponent at the best of times. And though the Gatineau Olympiques executed their strategy, Val-d'Or still managed to find holes to exploit to win.

GATINEAU, Que. — Etienne Monpetit made 30 saves and Val-d’Or did all its damage with the power play as the league-leading Foreurs downed the Gatineau Olympiques 3-1 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Julien Gauthier, Carl Tremblay and Alexis Pepin all scored with the man advantage for the Foreurs (38-9-3), who extended their win streak to seven games.

Vitalii Abramov kept the Olympiques (33-15-3) from being shut out. Mathieu Bellemare turned away 33-of-36 shots in a losing cause.

Val-d’Or finished the game 3 for 8 on the power play while Gatineau failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

TITAN 2 WILDCATS 0

MONTON, N.B. — Reilly Pickard stopped all 33 shots his way as Acadie-Bathurst blanked the Wildcats.

Jeffrey Truchon-Viel struck twice for the Titan (20-25-5) and Vladimir Kuznetsov set up both.

Blade Mann-Dixon stopped 30-of-31 shots for Moncton (30-14-7), who are on a five-game slide.

SCREAMING EAGLES 4 MOOSEHEADS 2

HALIFAX — Maxim Lazarev had a pair of goals and Alexandre Belanger made 23 saves as Cape Breton beat the Mooseheads to halt a four-game skid.

Michael Joly had a goal and an assist for the Screaming Eagles (25-22-5) while Clark Bishop scored the other.

Eric Brassard turned away 39-of-43 shots for Halifax (16-29-6), which got its offence from Jocktan Chainey and Vincent Watt.

SAGUENEENS 3 OCEANIC 2 (OT)

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Jake Smith scored 18 seconds into the extra period to lift Chicoutimi over the Oceanic.

Alexandre Jacob and Nicolas Roy also scored for the Sagueneens (22-19-7), who got a 39-save outing from Julio Billia. Frederic Allard tacked on three assists.

Antoine Dufort-Lapointe and Dominic Cormier scored for Rimouski (27-17-5). Alexandre Lagace stopped 32-of-35 shots in a losing cause.

Oceanic forward Nicolas Werbik was given a match penalty for kicking in the second period.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Samuel Harvey stopped 27 shots as the Huskies blanked Baie-Comeau for their fourth win in a row.

Timo Meier, Anthony Wojkic, Julien Nantel and Martins Dzierkals scored for Rouyn-Noranda (37-8-4).

Antoie Samuel kicked out 15-of-16 shots in a period of work for the Drakkar (8-38-3), who have dropped five straight. Bo Taylor took over to start the second and made 25 saves in relief.

CATARACTES 5 VOLTIGEURS 4 (OT)

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Anthony Beauvillier’s second goal of the night came 3:36 into overtime as the Cataractes slipped past Drummondville.

Dmytro Timashov had a goal and three helpers for Shawinigan (32-13-3), which also got goals from Alexis D’Aoust and Alex Pawelczyk. Philippe Cadorette made 26 saves for the win.

Kristian Afanasyev, Joey Ratelle, Michael Carcone and Alex Barre-Boulet responded for the Voltigeurs (22-26-2). Frederic Foulem turned away 42-of-47 shots in defeat.
