QMJHL Roundup: Mooseheads beat Screaming Eagles in shootout

SYDNEY, N.S. – Benoit-Olivier Groulx scored the deciding goal in the fourth round of a shootout to lift the Halifax Mooseheads to a 3-2 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Antoine Morand also scored in the shootout and Samuel Asselin had both regulation-time goals for Halifax (25-8-2).

Mitchell Balmas tied the game for the Screaming Eagles (22-12-3) midway through the third period. Mathias Laferriere had the other goal in the second.

Mooseheads goaltender Cole McLaren stopped 33 shots. Cape Breton’s Kevin Mandolese made 35 saves.

Neither team scored on the power play. Halifax was 0 for 4 while the Screaming Eagles went 0 for 6.

SEA DOGS 1 WILDCATS 0

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Mikhail Denisov stopped all 34 shots he faced as the Sea Dogs blanked Moncton.

Nicholas Deakin-Poot had the lone goal for Saint John (7-26-3) midway through the first period.

Francis Leclerc made 10 saves for the Wildcats (23-11-4).

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Emile Hegarty-Aubin’s first goal of the season early in the third period stood as the winner as Gatineau edged the Armada.

Mathieu Bizier and Kieran Craig also scored for the Olympiques (14-18-3).

Joel Teasdale and Cole Fraser supplied the offence for Blainville-Boisbriand (15-19-1).

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Brendan Cregan made 25 saves as the Phoenix shut out Victoriaville.

Yann-Felix Lapointe, Samuel Poulin and Jaxon Bellamy provided goals for Sherbrooke (21-13-2).

Tristan Cote-Cazenave stopped 34 shots for the Tigres (14-19-3).

HUSKIES 4 FOREURS 1

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Tyler Hinam had a goal and two assists as Rouyn-Noranda beat Val-d’Or.

Alex Beaucage, Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Tommy Beaudoin rounded out the scoring for the Huskies (30-6-1). Yan Dion replied for the Foreurs (12-20-4).

Zachary Emond kicked out 19 shots for Rouyn-Noranda. Jonathan Lemieux combined with Mathieu Marquis for 48 saves for Val-d’Or.
