RIMOUSKI, Que. — Mitchell Balmas’s third-period goal stood as the winner as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles edged the Rimouski Oceanic 2-1 on Sunday to even their second-round Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series at a game apiece.
Mathias Laferriere scored the game’s first goal for Cape Breton early in the second period and Balmas made it 2-0 13:03 into the third.
Alexis Lafreniere had the lone goal for the Oceanic with 2:16 left in the game.
Screaming Eagles goaltender Kevin Mandolese stopped 28 shots. Rimouski’s Colten Ellis made 26 saves.
Cape Breton hosts Game 3 on Tuesday.
