SYDNEY, N.S. – Joe Veleno’s goal 8:49 into the second period was the eventual winner as the Drummondville Voltigeurs dumped the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-1 on Thursday to advance to the next round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.
Drummondville won the best-of-seven series 4-1.
Nicolas Guay, Yvan Mongo, Connor Bramwell and Xavier Simoneau also scored for the Voltigeurs, while Olivier Rodrigue made 16 saves.
Leon Gawanke scored for the Screaming Eagles and Kyle Jessiman stopped 24 shots.
Drummondville did not score on its five power plays and Cape Breton was 0 for 2 with the man advantage.
