Swiss down Belarus in WJC relegation-round game

HELSINKI — Timo Meier and Denis Malgin had a goal and two assists each as Switzerland defeated Belarus 5-1 in the first relegation-round game Saturday at the world junior hockey tournament.

Noah Rod, Damien Riat and Julien Privet had the other goals for the Swiss, who outshot Belarus 41-21.

Dmitri Buinitski scored for Belarus.

The second relegation game will be played Sunday.
