Switzerland defeats Finland, gets Canada in QF

MALMO, Sweden – Claude Paschoud scored the lone shootout goal to give Switzerland a 4-3 win over Finland in the final round-robin game at the world junior championships Tuesday.

Finland (2-0-1-1) finished second in Group B despite the loss and will face the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.

The Swiss (1-1-0-2) finished fourth in the group and will face Canada on Thursday.

Flavio Schmutz, Fabrice Herzog and Nico Dunner scored for Switzerland while Ville Pokka, Aleksi Mustonen and Saku Maenalanen scored for Finland.

Ville Husso, who was pulled halfway through the game, combined with Juuse Saros for 30 saves while Melvin Nyffeler stopped 37 shots in he Swiss net.

Star Finnish defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen (illness) and top-line forward Artturi Lehkonen (leg injury) missed their second straight game.
