Watch: Fan throws beer at QMJHL referee’s groin

Being a referee really is a thankless job.

Not only do you have to deal with getting booed on a regular basis, sometimes fans take it to the next level and inflict physical pain.

That’s exactly what happened to one QMJHL ref when he called a penalty on Francis Perron of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Feb. 11. While skating back to centre ice, Perron’s brother launched his beer from the stands and connected with the referee’s nether region.

This impressive display of accuracy rivals The Simpsons’ iconic ‘Football in the Groin’ clip:

Maybe refs will think twice about calling a penalty on Perron next time.
