Max Jones of the London Knights was ejected from Friday’s game for cross-checking Jonah Gadjovich of the Owen Sound Attack in the face.
Gadjovich had just completed a hat trick in the third period when Jones — a first-round, 24th-overall selection by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2016 NHL draft — carried out the vicious attack.
Jones was slapped with a major penalty for cross-checking and it’s likely the OHL will take a closer look at the play to see if a suspension is warranted. Jones, who was celebrating his 19th birthday, has 63 penalty minutes in 29 games this season and tallied 106 PIM in 63 games during the 2015-16 campaign.
Owen Sound defeated London 6-1 to bring itself to one point behind the Knights for third place in the OHL’s Western Conference.
