CALGARY — Jimmy Bubnick and Cody Sylvester each scored twice as the Calgary Hitmen advanced to the second round of the Western Hockey League playoffs with a 6-2 win in Game 7 of their series with the Moose Jaw Warriors on Monday.
Brandon Kozun added a goal and two assists for the regular-season champion Hitmen, who rebounded from a 3-1 deficit to take the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series 4-3. Tyler Shattock had a goal and an assist, while Michael Stone and Cody Beach each chipped in with a pair of helpers.
Jason Bast and Dylan Hood scored for the Warriors, who won the first two games of the series and held a 3-1 advantage before the Hitmen reeled off three straight victories.
Calgary goaltender Martin Jones made 25 stops, while Moose Jaw’s Jeff Bosch stopped 28 shots at the other end.
The Hitmen move on to face the Medicine Hat Tigers in the second round, with Game 1 set for Friday night in Calgary.
Chiefs beat Portland 4-3, send first-round WHL series to seventh game
PORTLAND, Ore. — Levko Koper had two goals and Tyler Johnson added three assists to lead the Spokane Chiefs over the Portland Winterhawks 4-3 in Western Hockey League playoff action Monday.
The Chiefs tied the best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final 3-3. The home team has yet to win a game in the series.
Game 7 is Wednesday in Spokane,Wash.
Tyler Beach, on the power play, and Kenton Miller also scored for Spokane.
Troy Rutkowski, on the power play, Luke Walker and Nino Niederreiter replied for Portland.
Chiefs goalie James Reid made 40 saves, while Mac Carruth stopped 33 shots for the Winterhawks.
Bloodoff scores game-winner as Rockets beat Silvertips 2-1 in Game 7
EVERETT, Wash. — Lucas Bloodoff scored the game-winner midway through the second period Monday as the Kelowna Rockets beat the Everett Silvertips 2-1 in Game 7 of their first-round Western Hockey League playoff series.
Geordie Wudrick also scored for Kelowa and Mark Guggenberger made 40 saves in goal. The Rockets face the Tri-City Americans in the next round.
Chris Langkow scored the lone goal for Everett, while Kent Simpson stopped 20 shots.
