WHL Roundup: Broncos tie series with double-OT win over Warriors

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Matteo Gennaro capped a hat trick 18:14 into the second overtime period as the Swift Current Broncos edged the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-2 in Game 4 of their Western Hockey League playoff series on Wednesday to even the second-round set at two games apiece.

Gennaro had the first goal on a power play 14:07 into the first period and tied the game on another power play 1:22 into the third.

Tanner Jeannot and Jett Woo replied for the Warriors, who will host Game 5 on Friday.

Swift Current goaltender Stuart Skinner made 51 saves. Moose Jaw’s Brody Willms stopped 40 shots.

The Broncos were 2 for 4 on the power play while the Warriors were scoreless on five chances with the man advantage.

HURRICANES 7 WHEAT KINGS 4

BRANDON, Man. — Bard Morrison and Jake Elmer each scored twice and added an assist as Lethbridge avoided elimination by taking Game 4 from the Wheat Kings.

Dylan Cozens, Zane Franklin and Logan Barlage also scored for the Hurricanes, who trail 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Marcus Sekundiak, Luka Burzan, Stelio Mattheos and Ty Lewis replied for Brandon.

Lethbridge hosts Game 5 on Friday.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Morgan Geekie scored the tiebreaking goal 5:29 into the third and the Americans beat Victoria to complete a four-game sweep and advance to the next round.

Isaac Johnson, Sasha Mutala, Dylan Coghlan and Riley Sawchuk also scored for Tri-City.

Noah Gregor led the Royals with two goals. Kaid Oliver had the other.
