WHL Roundup: Foote scores twice as Kelowna Rockets edge Regina Pats

KELOWNA, B.C. — Nolan Foote scored twice as the Kelowna Rockets edged the Regina Pats 3-2 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League play.

Foote put away the power-play winner for Kelowna at 18:23 of the second period.

Kyle Crosbie also scored for the Rockets (10-13-1), while Roman Basran made 23 saves for the win.

Jake Leschyshyn and Aaron Hyman supplied the offence for the Pats (8-16-0) as Dean McNabb stopped 28 shots.

OIL KINGS 4 WHEAT KINGS 1

BRANDON, Man. — Quinn Benjafield scored twice, including the winner, as Edmonton subdued the Wheat Kings.

Brett Kemp and Trey Fix-Wolansky also scored for the Oil Kings (14-8-3).

Stelio Mattheos replied for Brandon (10-6-6).

HURRICANES 3 BLADES 1

SASKATOON — Ty Kolle’s goal early in the third period was the winner as Lethbridge topped the Blades.

Jadon Joseph and Jackson Shepard also scored for the Hurricanes (10-8-4).

Tristen Robins responded for the Blades (14-8-2).

HITMEN 3 WINTERHAWKS 2

PORTLAND, Ore. — Riley Stotts scored the game-winning goal at 7:52 of the third period as Calgary slipped past the Winterhawks.

Jake Kryski and James Malm also scored for the Hitmen (9-13-2).

Cody Glass and John Ludvig had goals for Portland (13-8-2).

GIANTS 4 THUNDERBIRDS 2

KENT, Wash. — Milos Roman had the eventual winner on a power play early in the second as Vancouver doubled Seattle.

Bowen Byram, Dylan Plouffe and Lukas Svejkovsky rounded out the attack for the Giants (15-6-2).

Nolan Volcan and Zack Andrusiak scored for the Thunderbirds (8-10-3).
