WHL Roundup: Fyten, Broncos beat Raiders for fourth straight win

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Andrew Fyten scored twice and Glenn Gawdin had a goal and two assists as the Swift Current Broncos beat the Prince Albert Raiders 6-5 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Max Patterson scored the go-ahead goal at 15:58 of the third period for the Broncos (40-13-4), who also got goals from Josh Anderson and Tyler Steenbergen to extend their win streak to four games and move them within three points of the league-leading Moose Jaw Warriors.

Kody McDonald struck twice and Jordy Stallard added a goal and two helpers to pace the offence for the Raiders (22-23-11), who are on a three-game slide. Nikita Krivokrasov and Cole Fonstad scored for the Raiders.

Stuart Skinner kicked out 23 shots for Swift Current as Curtis Meger combined with Ian Scott for 23 saves for Prince Albert.

The Broncos went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Raiders went 2 for 3 with the man advantage.

BLADES 2 PATS 1 (SO)

SASKATOON — Michael Farren scored the shootout winner while Nolan Maier made 38 saves as the Blades edged Regina.

Logan Christensen scored in regulation for Saskatoon (28-26-3).

The Pats (29-23-6) offence came from Matt Bradley while Max Paddock stopped 28 shots in defeat.

WINTERHAWKS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 3

PORTLAND, Ore. — Joachim Blichfeld had two goals and an assist as the Winterhawks beat Seattle to extend their win streak to five games.

Alex Overhardt, Lane Gilliss and Ryan Hughes also scored for Portland (35-18-4). Shane Farkas picked up the win with 19 saves.

Dillon Hamaliuk, Turner Ottenbreit and Matthew Wedman found the back of the net for the Thunderbirds (27-20-8). Dorrin Luding turned away 31-of-35 shots in defeat.

SILVERTIPS 3 CHIEFS 2

SPOKANE, Wash. — Connor Dewar’s goal at 12:32 of the third period proved to be the difference as Everett held on to beat the Chiefs.

Spencer Gerth and Riley Sutter also scored for the Silvertips (36-17-4), who led 3-0 early in the third. Dustin Wolf made 24 saves for the victory.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Kailer Yamamoto made it close for Spokane (30-20-5). Donovan Buskey turned aside 18 shots in a losing cause.

HITMEN 5 TIGERS 4

CALGARY — Conner Chaulk’s second goal of the night at 18:12 of the third period lifted the Hitmen over Medicine Hat.

Carson Focht also scored twice while Dakota Krebs had the other for Calgary (17-31-7), which got a 44-save outing from Nick Schneider.

David Quenneville, Ryan Jevne, Bryan Lockner and Mark Rassell scored for the Tigers (28-23-7). Michael Bullion stopped 42 shots in defeat.
