WHL Roundup: Gabrielle, Mahura lead Pats in win over Hitmen

REGINA — Jesse Gabrielle scored twice and added an assist and Josh Mahura had a goal and four helpers to lead the Regina Pats to an 8-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action on Saturday.

Jared Legien and Sam Steel each scored a goal and set up two more for Regina (23-19-4) and Logan Nijhoff, Robbie Holmes and Matt Bradley rounded out the offence. Cale Fleury chipped in with three assists.

Cael Zimmerman and Riley Stotts replied for the Hitmen (13-25-6).

Pats goaltender Ryan Kubic kicked out 33 shots. Calgary’s Matthew Armitage combined with Nick Schneider for 39 saves.

Regina went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Hitmen scored once on six chances with the man advantage.

RAIDERS 4 WARRIORS 3

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Jordy Stallard scored twice to lead the Raiders over Moose Jaw.

Kody McDonald’s power-play goal 7:55 into the third stood as the winner for Prince Albert (16-19-8). Curtis Miske also scored.

Ryan Peckford, Justin Almeida and Jett Woo supplied the offence for the Warriors (35-7-3).

BRONCOS 9 OIL KINGS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Alta. — Aleksi Heponiemi scored on a penalty shot and added two assists to lead the Broncos over Edmonton.

Glenn Gawdin also had a goal and two helpers for Swift Current (31-10-3) and Artyom Minulin, Matteo Gennaro, Max Patterson, Tanner Nagel, Giorgio Estephan, Kole Gable and Beck Malenstyn rounded out the offence.

Carter Souch had the lone goal for the Oil Kings (12-26-6).

BRANDON, Man. — Ryan Jevne scored 1:02 into overtime as Medicine Hat edged the Wheat Kings.

Mark Rassell, David Quenneville and Gary Haden scored in regulation for the Tigers (24-17-3).

Stelio Mattheos, Ty Lewis and Connor Gutenberg replied for Brandon (28-12-3).

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Dylan Cozens scored a hat trick as the Hurricanes beat Kootenay.

Keltie Jeri-Leon and Taylor Ross also scored for Lethbridge (20-19-3).

Cameron Hausinger and Sam Huston supplied the offence for the Ice (18-22-3).

RED DEER, Alta. — Max Gerlach’s second goal of the game was the overtime winner, lifting Saskatoon over the Rebels.

Josh Paterson also scored for the Blades (22-19-3).

Grayson Pawlenchuk and Mason McCarty scored for Red Deer (10-23-11).

WINTERHAWKS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 4

PORTLAND, Ore. — Skyler McKenzie scored twice as the Winterhawks edged Seattle.

Ryan Hughes, Cody Glass and Joachim Blichfeld also scored for Portland (26-13-3).

Dillon Hamaliuk led the Thunderbirds (20-16-6) with two goals. Donovan Neuls and Nolan Volcan had the others.

LANGLEY, B.C. — James Malm scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to lift the Giants over Kelowna.

Owen Hardy and Ty Ronning also scored for Vancouver (25-14-6).

Conner Bruggen-Cate and Leif Mattson scored for the Rockets (27-13-3).

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Jackson Leppard’s goal midway through the second period stood as the winner as Prince George topped the Americans.

Joel Lakusta, Ilijah Colina, Vladislav Mikhalchuk and Jared Bethune also scored for the Cougars (17-20-7).

Jake Bean and Parker AuCoin supplied the offence for Tri-City (22-15-5).

ROYALS 5 BLAZERS 4

VICTORIA — Dante Hannoun scored twice, including the go-ahead goal late in the third period, to lead the Royals over Kamloops.

Jeff de Wit also scored twice for Victoria (25-16-4) and Andrei Grishakov added the other.

Jermaine Loewen, Joe Gatenby, Brodi Stuart and Luc Smith scored for the Blazers (18-22-3).

SPOKANE, Wash. — Garrett Pilon scored a hat trick as the Everett defeated the Chiefs.

Matt Fonteyne scored the other two goals for the Silvertips (26-16-2).
