WHL Playoffs: Geekie’s hat trick helps Americans sweep Rockets

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Morgan Geekie scored a hat trick as the Tri-City Americans completed their four-game sweep of the Kelowna Rockets with a 5-3 win on Thursday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Geekie supplied the game-winning goal for the Americans at 19:05 of the third period. Jordan Topping and Nolan Yaremko also scored for Tri-City.

Dillon Dube scored twice for Kelowna and Kyle Topping also found the back of the net.

Patrick Dea made 25 saves for the win and James Porter stopped 36 shots for Kelowna.

The Americans went 0 for 3 on the power play and the Rockets were 1 for 3 on the man advantage.

ROYALS 7 GIANTS 3

LANGLEY, B.C. — Tyler Soy scored three times as Victoria routed Vancouver.

Their series is now 2-2.

Dante Hannoun put away the eventual winner for the Royals at 12:22 of the second period. Matthew Phillips, Ralph Jarratt and Jeff de Wit also scored.

Dylan Plouffe, Davis Koch and Jared Dmytriw scored for the Giants.

WINTERHAWKS 4 CHIEFS 3

SPOKANE, Wash. — Joachim Blichfeld had goals seven seconds apart, including the winner, as Portland edged the Chiefs.

The Winterhawks hold a 3-1 series lead.

Alex Overhardt and Skyler McKenzie also scored for Portland.

Hudson Elynuik and Jaret Anderson-Dolan had power-play goals for Spokane, while Eli Zummack also found the back of the net.
