WHL Roundup: Giants beat Chiefs to pick up fifth straight win

SPOKANE, Wash. — Jared Dmytriw scored twice as the Vancouver Giants defeated the Spokane Chiefs 6-4 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Davis Koch scored the go-ahead goal at 11:11 of the third period while Dawson Holt chipped in with three assists.

Tristen Nielsen, Seth Bafaro and Justin Sourdif also scored for the Giants (28-12-2), who picked up their fifth win in a row.

Luc Smith struck twice and Nolan Reid and Filip Kral had the others for the Chiefs (24-14-4), who had their win streak snapped at four games.

David Tendeck kicked out 23 shots for Vancouver as Bailey Brkin stopped 28-of-33 shots for Spokane.

The Giants were 0 for 1 on the power play while the Chiefs went 3 for 3 with the man advantage.

BLADES 6 PATS 2

SASKATOON — Kirby Dach had a goal and an assist as the Blades handed Regina its ninth loss in a row.

Max Gerlach, Ryan Hughes, Riley McKay, Chase Wouters and Cyle McNabb also scored while Nolan Maier made 15 saves for Saskatoon (27-13-6).

Cole Dubinsky and Austin Pratt replied for the Pats (12-32-2). Dean McNabb allowed six goals on 34 shots to take the loss.

TIGERS 3 BRONCOS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Corson Hopwo and James Hamblin each had a goal and an assist as Medicine Hat toppled the Broncos.

Jordan Hollett made 23 saves for the Tigers (25-16-4), who also got a goal from Trevor Longo.

Riley Lamb turned aside 43 shots for Swift Current (9-32-3) as Ethan O’Rourke supplied the lone goal.

WHEAT KINGS 5 ICE 4 (OT)

BRANDON, Man. — Ridly Greig scored at 1:56 of the extra period and Cole Reinhardt scored twice in regulation as the Wheat Kings slipped past Kootenay.

Braden Schneider and Luka Burzan also scored for Brandon (18-18-6). Jiri Patera stopped 37 shots for the victory.

Brad Ginnell, Chase Hartje, Jaeger White and Davis Murray scored for the Ice (10-29-8) as Jesse Makaj made 32 saves in defeat.

REBELS 3 HURRICANES 1

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Ethan Anders kicked out 35 shots as Red Deer got by the Hurricanes.

Chris Douglas, Jeff de Wit and Cameron Hausinger found the back of the net for the Rebels (26-13-3).

Jordy Bellerive was the lone scorer for Lethbridge (23-13-8). Liam Hughes stopped 21-of-23 shots in defeat.

RAIDERS 4 BLAZERS 1

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Boston Bilous made 29 saves as league-leading Prince Albert beat the Blazers for its fourth win in a row.

Brett Leason had a goal and an assist while Ozzy Wiesblatt, Dante Hannoun and Justin Nachbaur also scored for the Raiders (39-5-1).

Jackson Caller was the only Kamloops (15-24-3) skater to beat Bilous. Dylan Garand made 22 saves as the Blazers dropped their sixth straight game.

WARRIORS 4 ROYALS 0

VICTORIA — Adam Evanoff made 28 saves as Moose Jaw blanked the Royals for its third straight win.

Tristin Langan had a hat trick and Justin Almeida had three assists for the Warriors (24-11-7). Keenan Taphorn had the other goal.

Griffen Outhouse stopped 21-of-25 shots as Victoria (22-18-1) lost for the third time in three outings.

ROCKETS 2 SILVERTIPS 0

EVERETT, Wash. — James Porter stopped all 40 shots his way as Kelowna blanked the Silvertips to snap a six-game losing streak.

Michael Farren and Mark Liwiski scored for the Rockets (18-22-4).

Dustin Wolf turned away 18 shots for Everett (33-10-2).

AMERICANS 3 THUNDERBIRDS 2 (SO)

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Parker AuCoin had a goal and assist in regulation, and another in the shootout to lift Tri-City over Seattle.

Beck Warm stopped 39 shots while Riley Sawchuk had the other regulation-time goal for the Americans (22-16-3).

Payton Mount and Noah Philp scored as Roddy Ross made 22 saves for the Thunderbirds (15-21-5), who had their win streak halted at three games.
