BRANDON, Man. — Connor Gutenberg scored 25 seconds into overtime and Schael Higson had five points as the Brandon Wheat Kings came out on top of a wild 5-4 match against Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League action Friday evening.
Schael Higson had two goals, Jonny Hooker and Luka Burzan added singles for the Wheat Kings (5-0-1), whose only loss this season was against Moose Jaw in overtime last week.
Tristin Langan scored twice, while Josh Brook and Jett Woo also had goals for the Warriors (3-2-2).
Jiri Patera turned aside 37 shots for Brandon. Brodan Salmond made 19 saves for Moose Jaw.
The Warriors went 2 for 3 with the man advantage.
BLADES 3 REBELS 2 (OT)
SASKATOON — Max Gerlach scored a hat trick, including in overtime, as Saskatoon sunk Red Deer.
Gerlach’s game-winning goal came for the Blades (7-2-0) at 3:44 of overtime. Oleg Zaytsev and Jeff de Wit answered for the Rebels (5-2-1).
Nolan Maier turned aside 23 shots for Saskatoon. Ethan Anders kicked out 34 shots for Red Deer.
CHIEFS 4 BRONCOS 1
SWIFT CURRENT, Alta. — Isaac Poulter made 44 saves, but it wasn’t enough as Spokane pummelled Swift Current.
Jake McGrew and Riley Woods both had a goal and an assist for the Chiefs (4-1-2), while Carter Chorney and Eli Zummack also found the back of the net. Noah King scored the lone goal for the winless Broncos (0-7-0).
Bailey Brkin turned away 28 shots for Spokane.
TIGERS 4 COUGARS 1
MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Linus Nassen had a goal and two assists as Medicine Hat cruised past Prince George.
Ryan Jevne scored twice and Tyler Preziuso added a single for the Tigers (4-5-1). Josh Curtis had the lone marker the Cougars (2-5-1).
Mads Sogaard turned aside 22 shots for Medicine Hat. Taylor Gauthier made 26 saves for Prince George.
PATS 3 ICE 2
CRANBROOK, B.C. — Regina scored three straight goals and Max Paddock made 29 saves as it held on for a win over Kootenay.
Austin Pratt’s marker for the Pats (2-6-0) at 12:24 of the second period stood as the game-winning goal. Robbie Holmes and Sergei Alkhimov also had goals for the Pats. Cameron Hausinger and Jaeger White replied for the ICE (3-3-0).
Duncan McGovern turned away 24 shots for Kootenay.
HITMEN 6 HURRICANES 5
CALGARY — Mark Kastelic scored twice, including the winner, and added and an assist as Calgary defeated Lethbridge to picked up its first win of the season.
Kastelic notched the game-winning goal on the power play for the Hitmen (1-5-1) at 10:41 of the third period. Jake Kryski, Riley Fiddler-Schultz, Dakota Krebs and Kaden Elder also scored for the Hitmen. Logan Barlage had two goals, while Jake Elmer, Zachary Cox and Jadon Joseph added singles for the Hurricanes (3-4-1).
Jack McNaughton kicked out 34 shots for Calgary. Carl Tetachuk and Reece Klassen combined for 31 saves for Lethbridge.
ROCKETS 3 AMERICANS 2
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Kyle Topping scored the game-winning goal in the third period as Kelowna held off Tri-City.
Dallon Wilton and Libor Zabransky also scored for the Rockets (2-8-0). Isaac Johnson and Blake Stevenson answered for the Americans (3-3-0).
Roman Basran kicked out 21 shots for Kelowna. Beck Warm turned aside 34 shots for Tri-City.
GIANTS 4 BLAZERS 3 (SO)
LANGLEY, B.C. — Kaleb Bulych scored the shootout winner as Vancouver eked out a win over Kamloops.
Jared Dmytriw, Davis Koch and Milos Roman scored for the Giants (7-1-0). Luc Smith had two goals and Zane Franklin added a single for the Blazers (2-5-1).
David Tendeck turned away 27 shots for Vancouver. Dylan Garand made 28 saves for Kamloops.
SILVERTIPS 5 OIL KINGS 3
EVERETT, Wash. — Connor Dewar scored twice and had two assists as Everett thumped Edmonton.
Bryce Kindopp notched the game-winning goal on the power play for the Silvertips (4-3-0) at 17:01 of the third period. Jake Christiansen and Dawson Butt also scored for the Silvertips. Conner McDonald, Vince Loschiavo and Vladimir Alistrov netted markers for the Oil Kings (5-5-1).
Dustin Wolf kicked out 17 shots for Everett. Boston Bilous stopped 39 shots for Edmonton.
