WHL Roundup: Kemp scores twice as Oil Kings beat Tigers

EDMONTON – Brett Kemp has the Edmonton Oil Kings on a three-game win streak to open the Western Hockey League season.

Kemp scored two goals just 2:01 apart in the second period as the Oil Kings came back from two goals down to beat the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-2 on Wednesday.

Andrei Pavlenko scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third for Edmonton (3-0-0), which got 33 saves from Dylan Myskiw.

Bryan Lockner and Eric Van Impre built up a 2-0 by the 6:43 mark of the second for the Tigers (1-2-0).

Jordan Hollett stopped 30-of-33 shots in defeat.

The Oil Kings went 0 for 1 on the power play while Medicine Hat scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

KELOWNA, B.C — Vladislav Mikhalchuk broke a 2-2 deadlock at 16:27 of the third as Prince George handed the Rockets their third loss in a row to begin the campaign.

Ryan Schoettler, Mike MacLean and Ilijah Colina also scored while Taylor Gauthier stopped 27 shots for the Cougars (1-1-1).

The Kelowna (0-3-0) offence was supplied by Leif Mattson and Lassi Thomson. James Porter kicked out 20-of-23 shots in a losing cause.
