WHL Roundup: McDonald’s two points lead Raiders over Rebels

RED DEER, Alta. — Kody McDonald had a goal and an assist to lead the Prince Albert Raiders to a 3-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Brett Leason’s second-period goal stood as the winner for Prince Albert (25-25-7) and Jordy Stallard also scored.

Alex Morozoff and Josh Tarzwell supplied the offence for the Rebels (21-28-13).

Raiders goaltender Ian Scott turned aside 29 shots. Red Deer’s Ethan Anders made 20 saves.

Prince Albert was 0 for 1 on the power play with the Rebels scored once on eight chances with the man advantage.

HITMEN 4 OIL KINGS 1

CALGARY — Jake Kryski scored twice as the Hitmen beat Edmonton.

Carson Focht and Jakob Stukel also scored for Calgary (19-33-7).

Tomas Soustal had the lone goal for the Oil Kings (18-34-8).

HURRICANES 7 WHEAT KINGS 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Brad Morrison scored twice and Jordy Bellerive had a goal and two assists as the Hurricanes downed Brandon.

Logan Barlage, Dylan Cozens, Egor Zudilov and Taylor Ross also scored for Lethbridge (30-25-6) and Calen Addison chipped in with three assists.

Connor Gutenberg and Rylan Bettens scored for the Wheat Kings (31-24-5).

SASKATOON — Matt Bradley scored two goals to pace Regina over the Blades.

Sam Steel and Cameron Hebig had a goal and two helpers apiece for the Pats (33-24-6) and Jared Legien, Koby Morrisseau and Robbie Holmes also scored.

Kirby Dach, Seth Bafaro, Eric Florchuk, Gage Ramsay and Chase Wouters supplied the offence for Saskatoon (31-28-3).

VICTORIA — Kieffer Bellows scored the eventual winner at 18:44 of the second period as Portland edged the Royals.

Alex Overhardt also scored for the Winterhawks (36-20-4).

Noah Gregor replied for Victoria (35-22-5).

AMERICANS 4 BLAZERS 2

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Juuso Valimaki’s goal at 1:54 of the third period proved to be the difference as Tri-City doubled up Kamloops.

Michael Rasmussen, Nolan Yaremko and Parker AuCoin also scored for the Americans (31-21-8).

The Blazers (27-30-5) got goals from Nick Chyzowski and Brodi Stuart.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Ty Smith had two goals and five assists as the Chiefs hammered Prince George.

Kailer Yamamoto and Ethan McIndoe each had a goal and two helpers while Milos Fafrak, Luke Toporowski, Dalton Hamaliuk, Carter Chorney and Jeff Faith also scored for Spokane (34-21-5).

Brogan O’Brien and Aaron Boyd scored for the Cougars (20-32-4).

LANGLEY, B.C. — Martin Fasko-Rudas put his team ahead for good at 12:16 of the second period as Everett downed Vancouver.

Connor Dewar also scored for the Silvertips (40-17-5).

Davis Koch scored for the Giants (31-21-8).

ROCKETS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 4

KELOWNA, B.C. — Kole Lind broke a 4-4 deadlock at 18:39 of the third period as the Rockets beat Seattle.

Cal Foote, Dillon Dube, Leif Mattson and Kaedan Korczak also scored for Kelowna (37-18-6).

Donovan Neuls, Dillon Hamaliuk, Matthew Wedman and Zack Andrusiak scored for the Thunderbirds (28-23-9).

CRANBROOK, B.C. — David Quenneville supplied the winner on a power play midway through the third period as Medicine Hat edged the Ice.

Gary Haden and Cole Clayton also scored for the Tigers (31-24-7).
