PORTLAND, Ore. – Riley McKay scored once in regulation, then added the shootout winner as the Spokane Chiefs rallied to beat the Portland Winterhawks 5-4 on Sunday, the final day of the Western Hockey League’s regular season.
Jake McGrew, Milos Fafrak and Nolan Reid all scored third-period goals for the Chiefs (41-25-6) to erase a 4-1 deficit.
Mason Mannek, Kieffer Bellows, Skyler McKenzie and Ryan Hughes scored for the Winterhawks (44-22-6).
Donovan Buskey made 33 saves for Spokane as Shane Farkas turned aside 18 shots for Portland.
The Chiefs went 2 for 3 on the power play while the Winterhawks failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
Portland and Spokane will faceoff against each other in the first round of the WHL playoffs, with the Winterhawks hosting Game 1 on March 24.

AMERICANS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 2
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Nolan Yaremko and Parker AuCoin had two goals apiece as Tri-City downed Seattle.
Jake Bean also scored while Beck Warm combined with Patrick Dea for 18 saves for the Americans (38-25-9), who will play the Kelowna Rockets in Round 1 of the post-season.
Zack Andrusiak and Dillon Hamaliuk found the back of the net for the Thunderbirds (34-28-10), who meet up with the Everett Silvertips in the first round of the playoffs. Dorrin Luding made 37 saves in defeat.

OIL KINGS 7 HITMEN 3
CALGARY — Tomas Soustal and Matthew Robertson each had two goals and an assist as Edmonton beat the Hitmen in a matchup of two teams that will miss the playoffs.
Brett Kemp, Trey Fix-Wolansky and Colton Kehler also scored for the Oil Kings (22-42-8). Todd Scott made 34 saves for the victory.
Riley Stotts, Cael Zimmerman and Egor Zamula replied for Calgary (24-37-11). Nick Schneider turned away 19 shots in defeat.
