WHL all-stars rout Russians in opening game of CIBC Super Series

R.J. Broadhead and Sam Cosentino break down Team WHL’s dominant win over Team Russia to open the Super Series, with Flyers prospect Carter Hart turning away every shot for the shutout.

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Kole Lind scored two goals and set up another and Carter Hart stopped all 20 shots he faced as a team of Western Hockey League all-stars downed Russia 7-0 to open the Super Series on Monday.

Cody Glass, Dillon Dube and Brett Howden had a goal and an assist apiece for the WHL and Matthew Phillips and Tyler Steenbergen also scored.

Kale Clague chipped in with three assists.

Vladislav Sukhachev started in Russia’s net and allowed five goals on 26 shots through 40 minutes. Alexey Melnichuk stopped 5-of-7 shots in the third period.

The Super Series, an annual tournament between Russia and Canada’s junior hockey all-stars from all three CHL leagues, continues Tuesday in Swift Current, Sask. There are six games in all.
