When things aren’t going a professional athlete’s way, he’ll do anything to reverse the trend. Adjusting his swing, changing his pregame meal, tweaking his equipment… or, in the case of New Jersey Devils forward Adam Henrique, shaving his playoff beard.
The two-month scruff that characterizes the face of a Stanley Cup finalist is seldom removed prior to June’s final buzzer, but Henrique took a razor to his face after the Devils lost Game 3 in attempt to reverse New Jersey’s fortunes.
Gone is the Rookie of the Year candidate’s beard; the moustache, however, remains intact.

Henrique told the press on Tuesday that he is looking to change his luck – the Devils are down 3-0 to the Los Angeles Kings and face elimination Wednesday at the Staples Center — and fulfilling a promise to teammate Ryan Carter, who is only capable of growing a mustache.
“I told him I would join him at some point depending on how things went,” Henrique said. “There’s no better time than now to try and find something. Maybe the power’s in the mustache. He’s been doing well.”
Though he has scored 11 postseason points, Henrique has yet to register a point in the final.
Fellow centre Carter has one of New Jersey’s two goals in the final and has scored three times in his last five games.
“I like the power of the moustache,” said Carter, who’s happy to share his look with Henrique. “He’s got it now.”
