AHL skills competition, all-star game to air on Sportsnet

The American Hockey League has announced that the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic will air live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet NOW.

The AHL All-Stars Skills Competition will take place on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. ET, with the main event, the AHL All-Star Challenge, being held on Monday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. ET.

The game is set to be played at the historic Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, N.Y., and will feature 37 first-time AHL all-stars, seven former first-round draft choices, and 12 more second-rounders.

Twenty-five of the all-stars named have been recalled to the National Hockey League thus far this season, including Kasperi Kapanen of the Toronto Marlies (Toronto), Luke Kunin of the Iowa Wild (Minnesota), Daniel Sprong of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh), and Dylan Strome and Nick Merkley of the Tucson Roadrunners (Arizona).

Toronto Marlies head coach Sheldon Keefe, Manitoba Moose head coach Pascal Vincent, Providence Bruins head coach Jay Leach and Tucson Roadrunners head coach Mike Van Ryn have been named as coaches for their four respective divisions.
