Alex Ovechkin: Goal-Scoring Legend

Long live the king.

Alex Ovechkin is the reigning king of goal-scoring in hockey and his hat trick torching of the St. Louis Blues this past week was a good reminder.

With 12 goals in 19 games, Ovechkin is on pace to surpass 50 goals for the fourth straight season.

Milestones are almost a weekly thing for the Russian. Already sitting 32nd in all-time NHL goal-scoring with 537 career goals, Ovechkin needs one more to tie Keith Tkachuk for 31st and five to catch Stan Mikita for 30th. Heck, he only needs seven goals to catch Maurice Richard, likely in 100 fewer games; maybe more.

Keep in mind, Ovie is doing all of this in an era where there’s apparently a goal-scoring “crisis.”

So let’s toast to Alex Ovechkin, a legend on the ice already, and let’s enjoy the hopefully many seasons he will play in the future.
