St. Louis Blues forward Alex Steen has signed with Modo, becoming the first locked-out NHL player to join the Swedish Elite League.
The club made the announcement on their website Tuesday after the league overruled an earlier decision banning teams from signing rental players during the NHL lockout.
Steen, 28, had 15 goals and 13 assists with the Blues last year despite missing almost half of the season due to a concussion.
Born in Winnipeg, Steen holds Canadian and Swedish citizenship and played for Modo during the 2004-05 NHL lockout.
