Andrew Shaw ejected for boarding in Canadiens debut

Watch as Andrew Shaw isn’t happy with being tripped up so he retaliates by slamming Connor Hobbs into the boards and fighting Nathan Walker.

Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw was brought in by general manager Marc Bergevin for his in-your-face style of play, but it appears he may have crossed the line in his Bell Centre debut.

Shaw was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct after he drove Connor Hobbs into the glass behind the Washington net in the second period of a pre-season game Tuesday night.

He then had to fight Nathan Walker before being sent off the ice.

It’s quite possible Shaw was responding to an apparent slew-foot from Washington’s Jay Beagle, nevertheless, it was an inglorious way to end his first game in a Canadiens sweater.

It wasn’t all bad for Canadiens first-timers though.

Alexander Radulov put on a bit of a show, with a goal and an assist through two periods of play.

He got on the board with a deflection to open the scoring, then made a pretty pass to Nathan Beaulieu for his second point of the night.
