Antti Niemi waived after three tough starts with Penguins

NIkita Kucherov picked up two goals while Steven Stamkos had four points, including one goal and the Tampa Bay Lightning gave the Pittsburgh Penguins no chance, beating them 7-1.

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed goaltender Antti Niemi on waivers Monday.

Niemi has started three disastrous games for the Penguins, during which he gave up four, five, and seven goals respectively.

The 34-year-old has a .797 save percentage and 7.50 goals-against average in what the Finnish netminder was hoping would be a year in which he could re-establish himself at the NHL level.

He signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with Pittsburgh in July after two middling seasons with the Dallas Stars.
