Avalanche goalie Philipp Grubauer suffers lower-body injury vs. Kings
Philipp Grubauer is forced to leave the Stadium Series game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings after taking a hard collision from his own teammate Ian Cole in the crease.
Philipp Grubauer and Matt Calvert have lower body injuries, coach Jared Bednar said. He doesn’t know the severity yet, specifically Grubauer. He said he got word on the bench and the training staff was still working on him postgame.
With under three minutes gone in the third period, Grubauer was hit by Colorado defenceman Ian Cole on an accidental play that started and ended quickly.
Cole, backchecking to defend against Kings forward Austin Wagner, ran out of room and collided with Grubauer, who immediately fell back onto the ice.
Play was stopped in order for Grubauer to leave the game and be replaced by Pavel Francouz. The severity of Grubauer’s injury is not yet known.
The 28-year-old Grubauer had won six of his eight previous starts and posted a .940 save percentage in that span. On the season, he is 18-12-4 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .915 save percentage.
