Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov out for season

Semyon Varlamov had to leave the game so couldn’t complete hit shutout, but the Avalanche were perfect defensively as they beat the Blackhawks 5-0.

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season due to a lower-body injury.

Defenceman Erik Johnson is also expected to miss six weeks with a fractured patella.

Varlamov was injured in Friday’s victory over the Chicago Blackhawks after Tomas Jurco fell into his left pad with 6:25 remaining in the game. Jonathan Bernier replaced Varlamov in the Colorado crease.

Varlamov posted a 2.68 goals-against average with .920 save percentage in 51 games this season.

Colorado currently sits one spot out of a wild-card position, tied with the St. Louis Blues with 92 points. The Avalanche have four games remaining while the Blues have five.
