It’s been a miserable season for the Colorado Avalanche, but there is still an optimistic future for the young team.

On Wednesday, the Avalanche announced the signing of 19-year-old prospect Tyson Jost, who was picked 10th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft.

“We are excited to announce that Tyson has signed his entry-level contract and will be joining us for the rest of this season,” Avalanche Executive Vice President/General Manager Joe Sakic said in a release. “Tyson is an all-around player. He competes, plays the game hard and is reliable at both ends of the ice. He just finished a strong year at North Dakota and we’re looking forward to seeing him in an Avalanche sweater.”

Jost, from Kelowna, B.C., scored 16 goals and 35 points in 33 games with North Dakota this season, his first in the NCAA. Prior to that, Jost was a member of the BCHL’s Penticton Vees, where he scored 104 points in 48 games during his draft year. He was named the league’s most valuable player that season.

He was also a member of Canada’s 2016 under-18 World Championship team, where he scored 15 points in seven games to set a new Canadian record, breaking Connor McDavid’s output (14) from the 2013 tournament.
