Avalanche’s Zadorov has concussion after Wilson hit

Watch as Tom Wilson lines up and demolishes Nikita Zadorov in huge, Byfuglien-like fashion. But was the hit clean?

Colorado Avalanche defenceman Nikita Zadorov has been diagnosed with a concussion one day after being crushed by Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals.

Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy made the announcement Saturday.

Wilson hammered Zadorov with a devastating hit behind the Avalanche net in the second period of Friday’s game. A woozy Zadorov stayed on the ice for approximately one minute before he was assisted to the dressing by teammates and Colorado’s athletic trainer. Wilson was not penalized on the play.

It’s unclear how long Zadorov will be out of the lineup. The Avalanche have four games remaining in the regular season and sit five points back of Minnesota for the final Western Conference wild card spot. If they can’t catch the Wild it’s possible Zadorov has played his final game of the season. In 19 games this season the 20-year-old Russian has two assists.
