The National Hockey League has suspended Florida Panthers forward Krys Barch one game for conduct unbecoming to the game.
During Saturday’s game between Montreal and Florida, Barch was given a game misconduct after uttering something towards Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban. Not all the details of what exactly was said have been released.
“The things maybe I said were pretty explicit and maybe not for kids’ ears,” Barch told Sporting News on Thursday. “My grandma wouldn’t want to hear it, let’s put it that way.”
It was originally reported that Barch had uttered a racial slur, but he and the NHL say what was said was not racially driven.
“I never would ever say anything unjust or racial toward somebody else,” Barch said.
Barch will miss Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers and is eligible to return to the lineup on Friday when the Panthers visit the New Jersey Devils.
The 31-year-old is known as one of the tougher players in the league, racking up 628 penalty minutes in 275 career NHL games.
Barch, however, has never been suspended in his professional career.
In 22 games this season the Hamilton, Ont., native has no goals, no assists, and is minus-4 with 73 penalty minutes.
