Barnaby rips Sabres for Hasek jersey ceremony

Watch as the Buffalo Sabres retire Dominik Hasek's number in a touching ceremony.

Matthew Barnaby was not impressed with Dominik Hasek’s jersey retirement ceremony in Buffalo Tuesday night.

In a radio appearance on SiriusXM’s NHL Network Radio (via the Buffalo News), the ex-Sabres forward thought his old teammate deserved better.

“I think I’ve seen better ceremonies for players that have won Player of the Month for the Montreal Canadiens,” said Barnaby, who later added that he didn’t have a great relationship with Hasek.

According to Barnaby, the team should have done more to honour one of the best players in Sabres’ franchise history.

“This was embarrassing,” Barnaby explained. “There was no one. There wasn’t a former teammate on the ice. And yes, I wouldn’t have been there, but there’s a lot of players that did like him, respected him and are in good graces with him. There was no fanfare for that. There was no family there.”

Hasek’s ceremony lasted around 20 minutes.
