The Los Angeles Kings had a broadcast legend in the booth Thursday night during their game against the San Jose Sharks.
He’s… Ron Burgundy?
Burgundy joined Fox Sports’ broadcast team during the first intermission and was gracious enough to stay for the second frame of the game and help with play-by-play duties. It was, as you may have guessed, kind of a big deal.
To mark the occasion, here are the best moments from Burgundy’s (short) career in NHL colour commentary:
When he helped welcome a special fan.
The Kings hosted a young fan named Aiden in partnership with the Make-A-Wish foundation. Aiden signed a contract with the club, led the team out for warmups, and got a photo-op with Burgundy.
First, Aiden signs with the LA Kings.

When he talked up Kings forward Jeff Carter.
Hi praise for @JeffCarter_77 from Ron Burgundy #GoKingsGo | @_Attendee pic.twitter.com/o5qldNP1ub

When he dropped some facts* about Sharks goalie Martin Jones.
Hey @SanJoseSharks,
Some good off-ice info about Martin Jones from our pal Ron Burgundy #GoKingsGo | @_Attendee pic.twitter.com/cCpXXlfwSd— LA Kings (@LAKings) March 22, 2019

When he gave his dog Baxter a nice little shoutout.
“He actually ate an entire ham last weekend,” Burgundy noted. (A change of pace from a whole wheel of cheese.)
Ron Burgundy breaking down Bark Madness
Did You Know: Baxter was actually the first ever Bark Madness Champion in 1979 …and he also ate an entire ham last weekend. We're not even mad. That's amazing.

He also talked about cats. (Ron Burgundy is a man of many interests.)
When he shared what his go-to goal call would be.
“PUT THAT BABY TO BED WITHOUT A DIAPER!"
Ron Burgundy didn't jinx Anze Kopitar after all! #GoKingsGo | @_Attendee pic.twitter.com/Hj4bJTEplS

Unfortunately, Burgundy’s stint in the booth was over by the time Anze Kopitar actually did score in the third period:
(The real goal call was… disappointing.)
When the Kings’ mascot, Bailey, made up for an apparent hallway scare by bringing Burgundy a mid-game burrito.
"This burrito is delicious, but it is filling" meets "Milk was a bad choice" and it's everything we've ever wanted from Ron Burgundy #GoKingsGo | @_Attendee pic.twitter.com/GlbVJoyGg5

He really loved the burrito.

When he got really into the Kings chant.
Don’t act like you’re not impressed.
