The National Hockey League cleaned up at the 2014 Sports Business Awards Thursday night.

The NHL was named “Sports League of the Year” and won “Sports Event of the Year” for the 2014 Winter Classic, while commissioner Gary Bettman took home the award for “Sports Executive of the Year.” The event, which is hosted by The SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily, honours excellence in sports business for the period of March 1, 2013 to Feb. 28, 2014.

Bettman, who won the award for the first time, beat out Fox Sports president and COO Randy Freer, Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber, Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive and Under Armour CEO and founder Kevin Plank.

The NHL won the award for the second time in four years, beating out the Atlantic Coast Conference, Major League Baseball, MLS, NASCAR and PGA Tour, while the Winter Classic was recognized for the second time after previously winning the award in 2009.
