Bettman says outdoor game coming to Minnesota

Gary Bettman was on hand at the Minnesota Wild game and said during an interview that an outdoor game will be happening in the state of hockey.

The Winter Classic could be coming to Minnesota very soon.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told FOX Sports during the first intermission of the Montreal Canadiens-Minnesota Wild game on Wednesday, that it is going to happen.

“Obviously there may be no better place to play an outdoor game. The facilities are here, the last time I was here last winter, we took a look at a couple of venues,” Bettman said.

Earlier in 2014, the University of Minnesota’s men’s and women’s hockey teams hosted an outdoor doubleheader against Minnesota State (women) and Ohio State (men) at TCF Bank Stadium. The men’s game attracted over 45,000 fans.

“It’s really a question of timing and whether we do a Winter Classic or one of the Stadium Series games. But, when you look at the fan base, you look at the facilities, you look at the organization, and the weather…an outdoor game will work here and we’ll bring it here,” Bettman said.
