The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned defenceman David Rundblad to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, the team announced Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was put on waivers Monday but passed through unclaimed.

Rundblad was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues, 17th overall in 2009. He was traded to the Ottawa Senators the following year where he first broke into the NHL.

He was a key piece in the trade that brought Kyle Turris to Ottawa from Arizona, before being traded once more, from the Coyotes to Chicago.

Rundblad has played in just nine games this season, where he’s put up two assists.

The Swedish blue-liner has played in 113 career NHL games, totaling four goals and 21 assists.
