Blackhawks’ Hjalmarsson suspended for charging Blues’ Rattie

Niklas Hjalmarsson was ejected for this hit on Ty Rattie, who had to leave the game.

Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson has been suspended for the remainder of the pre-season and one regular season contest for charging St. Louis Blues forward Ty Rattie Saturday.

The incident occurred during the third period of Chicago’s 4-0 win. Hjalmarsson was levied a match penalty for illegal check to the head.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Hjalmarsson will forfeit $22,777.78. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Hjalmarsson totalled two goals and 24 points in 81 games with the Blackhawks in 2015-16.
