Blackhawks’ Shaw appears to use gay slur in loss to Blues

Watch as tensions boil over between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks in Game 4.

CHICAGO — A prominent gay rights group affiliated with the NHL says it plans to reach out to the league after Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw appeared to use a gay slur during a 4-3 playoff loss to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.

Shaw was sent off for interference at 17:56 of the third period. While sitting in the penalty box, it looked as if Shaw directed a gay slur toward someone on the ice, and the You Can Play Project said it planned to reach out to the NHL “to assist in an appropriate response.”

Shaw says he doesn’t remember what he said.
